Interns and Trainees enrolled in Pacific Center’s Clinical Services Training Program receive valuable training while providing low-cost psychotherapy services to the diverse LGBTQ East Bay community. Through didactic trainings, supervision, and mentorship, provided by licensed clinicians who generously donate their time, our Interns and Trainees gain valuable skills while earning hours towards licensure. Our year long program provides LGBTQ-competent training for the next generation of mental health professionals.
Orientation and team building takes place in the first month and attendance is mandatory during this 3-week period. June Cohort applicants must be available June 5 – June 21, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 10am – 3:30 pm for orientation. Post-orientation, Interns/Trainees must be available for a total of 20 hours/week, including on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, from 10am – noon for weekly Didactic Trainings, Group Supervision, Professional Development, and program meetings. All interns/trainees must be willing to complete client hours between Monday and Saturday each week. At least one evening is required but two are suggested.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate-level psychology or sociology program and must complete their first year of courses prior to internship start date.
Applicants must be proficient in Windows-based environment and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Access; basic knowledge of Google Apps for Domain, basic experience with Adobe Acrobat/Reader or similar PDF software; Previous experience with Practice Management software or other billing and payment software helpful but not required. NOTE: Pacific Center does not utilize electronic records management software — all charting is manual. Applicants must be able to work in a physical charting environment with reasonable accommodations, when needed.
Pacific Center’s Clinical Services Training Program is an unpaid internship position.

The intent of these application questions is to help the reviewers develop some sense of who you are as a person, as well as an understanding of who you are growing into as a clinician. We are interested in knowing why you are interested in working with the LGBTQ community, what experience you already have in dealing with any marginalized segment of the general population, and what you hope to gain as well as what you will bring to this experience.
Though most of our clientele come from the LGBTQ community, there is also diversity across many strata, including age, class, race, gender, sexual identity, and ethnicity. If selected to work here you should expect to work with clients who represent any number of combinations of these different demographic identifiers.

Each applicant is expected to answer the six questions below and upload your responses into the online application form. With the exception of Question 1, please limit responses to no more than 1 (8 1/2 x 11) page for each question. We recommend you copy and paste these questions into a Microsoft Word document. The Pacific Center utilizes a rolling admission policy and applications will be accepted until all positions are filled. You will be notified of your status within 6 weeks of your interview UNLESS you are from a BAPIC school. In that case you will be notified in accordance with BAPIC’s procedure. If you are accepted into the Clinical Training Program, contracts will be mailed to you in the month of May (regardless of cohort) and must be returned within 30 days.
